Kodi forum full review for Himedia Q5 pro and
Q10 pro.
Performance:
HiMedia Q10 Pro relies on HiSilicon's latest Hi3798C V200 SoC
(system-on-chip), successor to Hi3798C V100 as found in previous-gen
Q5/Q10 4K3D boxes. For PQ, we now get Imprex Engine 2.0 and Dolby Vision
4K image processing. Imprex 1.0 was already the best part of Q5/Q10
4K3D, and with the new SoC/Imprex in Pro, PQ is just as good (and maybe
marginally better), and shining most with 4K content. Q5/Q10 Pro use
Android OS 5.1.1. As a side note, @looun tried out Google's Android TV
leanback launcher, which installed fine, but didn't allow any shortcuts
to be added to the home screen. We don't know why, or what it would take
to make it work. Haven't had a chance to try myself.
My Q10 Pro boots up in about 24 seconds (vs. 44 seconds for Q5/Q10
4K3D). Q10 Pro is significantly faster, snappier all around:
responsiveness, navigating around, launching Kodi and browsing large
movie/TV libraries. Local streaming is also much improved as you'll see
below from bitrate tests.
My Q10 Pro came with Kodi 15.2 preinstalled. Uninstalled it, and
installed v17 nightly (20160323), latest as of this writing. Which
version of Kodi you have installed matters not as you'll be using the
external player 99% of the time anyway (though ability to use Kodi's
internal videoplayer via content menu is still there). I
installed/applied the new HiMediaWrapper APK, which works similarly to
the one for Q5/Q10 4K3D; see video demo below.
The remote is the same one HiMedia seems fond of as they've used it in
multiple players already. It lacks a 'Stop' function, and if you own
other HiMedia players, each controls others.
